Only 5–7% of Belarusians support participating in the war against Ukraine

The majority of Belarusian citizens oppose their army’s participation in the war against Ukraine. According to political analyst Igar Tyshkevich, this position has remained unchanged since 2022.

The expert notes that between 55% and 60% of Belarusians categorically oppose the participation of the Belarusian military in the war, while only 5–7% of the population supports such a scenario. In his view, given these public sentiments, the authorities are unlikely to dare to issue an order to enter combat operations.

Tishkevich also believes that Russia will continue to intensify political and economic pressure on Belarus, seeking to increase military cooperation and use Alexander Lukashenko to issue threats against neighboring states.

At the same time, according to the analyst, Moscow currently has no alternative political figure who could replace Lukashenko, despite the Kremlin’s desire to strengthen its influence in Belarus.

Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, held a meeting on military equipment and announced the preparation of a new state armament program for 2026–2030.
