IAEA reports local ceasefire for repairs at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia NPP
A local ceasefire has taken effect at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to carry out repairs aimed at restoring external power supply. The arrangements mediated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) came into force on September 5, Asharq Al-Awsat reports, citing the agency.
Repairs after demining
Ukrainian specialists are expected to begin repairing the power transmission lines later that day, after the area is cleared of mines. The Zaporizhzhia NPP is located in temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and is controlled by Russia, the aggressor state.

Operating on diesel generators
According to the IAEA, the plant has had no external power supply since August 20. It is using emergency diesel generators to cool critical safety systems.
The agency said that diesel fuel reserves at the site are declining. The IAEA estimates that the plant could face a complete blackout in the coming days if external power is not restored or additional fuel is not delivered to the site.
