In Belgorod region, half a million Russians were left without electricity and heating after a missile strike

On the evening of 8 January, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a missile strike on Belgorod. As a result of the attack, “serious damage to an infrastructure facility” was recorded.

This was reported by the governor of Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov.

He later уточнив that the strike hit the city’s engineering infrastructure. The targets were the Storozhevaya substation and the Luch thermal power plant.

As of the morning, 556,000 residents in six municipal districts of Belgorod region remain without electricity and heating.

Heating is absent in 1,920 apartment buildings. In addition, almost 200,000 people have been left without water supply and wastewater services.

“All emergency crews are at their posts. The connection of reserve capacities that we have been installing together over the past several months is ongoing. Restoration work is continuing where possible — it is now getting light, and we will be able to fully assess the damage and the timeframes for restoration. The situation is extremely difficult. But I hope that we will be able to overcome it,” Gladkov said.
