During combat operations in Donetsk region, a mercenary from the Philippines who was fighting on the side of Russian occupying forces was killed.

This was reported by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR).

According to intelligence officials, among the eliminated occupiers in Donetsk region they identified the body of John Patrick, a citizen of the Republic of the Philippines who had been fighting for Russia.

“The foreign national was serving in the 9th Assault Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 283rd Regiment of the 144th Motor Rifle Division of the 20th Combined Arms Army of the Russian Armed Forces,” the statement said.

Patrick was killed during a so-called “meat assault” near the village of Novoselivka in Kramatorsk district, Donetsk region.

At the time of his death, he carried only a weapon, ammunition, and a scrap of paper with his unit number, a phone number and the name of his commander. He did not speak Russian.

According to data recovered from the Filipino’s electronic devices, his basic training lasted only one week, after which he was immediately sent to the front line. He was wounded and died slowly in a forest belt, with no evacuation provided.

“The aggressor state, Russia, is expanding the criminal practice of recruiting foreign nationals and labour migrants into its armed forces through deception or coercion — foreigners are promised rear-area service or threatened with problems with the police,” the HUR concluded.
