A Russian agent who was planning attacks on defense plants was detained in the Khmelnytskyi region

The Counterintelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent in the Khmelnytskyi region who, according to the investigation, was planning Russian attacks on enterprises in the defense-industrial complex. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property for his actions.

The suspect was gathering coordinates for a new series of Russian missile and drone attacks on western Ukraine. Among the main “targets” that the enemy had instructed the agent to reconnoiter were enterprises in the defense-industrial complex and logistics centers used by Ukrainian defenders.

SBU officers uncovered the enemy’s plan in advance and apprehended the agent “red-handed” while he was conducting follow-up reconnaissance near a strategic facility. As the investigation revealed, the occupiers’ mission was carried out by a local repeat offender recruited by the FSB, who had previously served time for drug-related crimes.

“He came to the attention of the Russian special services through Telegram channels where he was searching for ‘quick money,’ which he needed to buy a dose of drugs.” It has been documented that the agent scouted the area under the guise of bicycle rides, recorded the perimeters of potential ‘targets’ on his smartphone, and transmitted the videos with geolocation data to his handler in Russia,” the statement reads.

During a search of the suspect’s premises, a phone containing evidence of his activities on behalf of the enemy was discovered.

Investigators from the Security Service informed the agent that he is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Losses incurred by Russian retailers from the July 22 drone attacks on Wildberries warehouses in Krasnodar and Nevinnomyssk could amount to approximately 100–120 billion rubles (1.27–1.53 billion U.S. dollars), assuming the warehouses were fully stocked and most of the goods were destroyed.
