In the Luhansk region, a prison official is suspected of torturing Ukrainian prisoners of war

The head of the operations department at the so-called “Sukhodilsk Correctional Colony No. 4” in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region was notified in absentia that he is suspected of cruel treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

According to the investigation, between 2022 and 2025, he and other correctional facility staff systematically subjected the prisoners to physical, psychological, and sexual abuse.

Ukrainian servicemen were beaten with fists, feet, and rubber batons, and were also tortured with electric shocks applied to various parts of their bodies.

Investigators believe that the violence was systematic in nature and aimed at humiliating the soldiers because of their service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and their participation in the defense of Ukraine.

On September 30, 2026, the man was notified in absentia of his status as a suspect under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—cruel treatment of prisoners of war, specifically committed by a group of individuals.
