A new mobilization in Russia could lead to heavy losses and desertions — FT
A new wave of mobilization in Russia could bring the Kremlin not only additional forces for the war against Ukraine, but also serious domestic problems.
According to the Financial Times, a source close to the Russian Ministry of Defense warns that heavy casualties among the newly mobilized and a rise in desertions could have negative political consequences for the Russian government.
Experts estimate that of the approximately 300,000 Russians mobilized in 2022, slightly more than 100,000 could remain on the front lines by mid-2026. According to the FT, the Russian army’s total losses are approaching 500,000 dead, and when wounded soldiers are included, the figure could reach 1.4 million military personnel.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin instructed the command of the Russian Navy to respond “resolutely” to attempts by Western countries to detain Russian tankers. He made this statement during a meeting with the commanders of the Russian Navy’s fleets.
