Moscow’s New Missiles Evade US Defenses — Financial Times

Russia has upgraded its missile arsenal to outmaneuver US Patriot defense systems, according to Ukrainian and Western officials. Over the summer, Moscow intensified strikes on Ukraine’s defense infrastructure, with missiles now performing last-second maneuvers that make interception nearly impossible. Experts describe it as a “cat-and-mouse” game, with Russia staying ahead of Western technology.

Reported by Financial Times

Ukraine’s interception rate has dropped sharply: while more than 30% of missiles were shot down in August, that number plummeted to just 6% in September. Modified Iskander-M and Kinzhal missiles, capable of altering their trajectory in the terminal phase, have proven especially dangerous, severely damaging key facilities around Kyiv.

Western analysts believe Russia is using software and tactical adjustments to boost missile effectiveness. Ukraine, meanwhile, is urging partners to deliver more air defense systems and upgraded interceptors, warning that the coming winter could see a new wave of mass Russian strikes targeting the country’s power grid.
