Peskov stated that Russia is not interested in a ceasefire with Ukraine
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian side is allegedly not in favor of a temporary ceasefire, but rather of a “lasting peace” with Ukraine.
Moscow believes that a ceasefire alone will not yield results.
“Putin and the Russian side have always stated that we are in favor of a lasting peace—peace forever—and not a ceasefire, which, in essence, will achieve nothing,” Peskov said.
According to the Kremlin spokesperson, Russia is allegedly interested specifically in a long-term settlement, not in a pause in hostilities.
Peskov also stated that Kyiv supposedly knows what decisions need to be made to end the war.
“In Kyiv, they know perfectly well what responsibility they need to take upon themselves and what decisions need to be made so that we can set out on a path that will lead us not to a ceasefire, but to a lasting peace,” the Kremlin spokesman noted.
At the same time, Dmitry Peskov did not specify in this statement exactly which decisions and conditions he was referring to.
Peskov’s statement came amid ongoing international efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. Earlier, a Kremlin representative had already expressed Moscow’s readiness for further trilateral consultations involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia.
However, the negotiation process has not made significant progress, and the parties have differing views on the conditions for a possible cessation of hostilities.
