"We've had good results in shooting down cruise missiles, but it's not easy with ballistic missiles," Zelenskyy said
In Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and a number of other regions of Ukraine, efforts to address the aftermath of a massive Russian attack have been ongoing since last night.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the attack was complex and, in his assessment, Russian forces sought to inflict as much damage as possible on the civilian population and infrastructure.
According to the president, the Russian attack caused significant damage to residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure in the capital.
As of the time of this report, 10 people are known to have been injured. Medical assistance is being provided to all victims in need of help.
Meanwhile, State Emergency Service personnel managed to rescue 13 people.
Unfortunately, two people were killed.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the Russian attack was large-scale and involved various types of weapons.
“It was a complex attack that the Russians deliberately calculated to cause as much loss of life as possible: ballistic, cruise, and anti-ship missiles, as well as ‘Shahed’ drones,” the president noted.
According to Zelenskyy, Russian forces also struck critical infrastructure in the Kyiv region.
In addition to the capital, other regions of Ukraine were also targeted.
In the Odesa region, a Russian strike hit a civilian market, resulting in damage and casualties.
In Kharkiv, two people were injured, and an apartment building was damaged.
This morning, Russian troops attacked a diesel locomotive on the Kyiv–Sumy train at a railway station in the Sumy region. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties this time.
Evacuation efforts are ongoing in the region.
In addition, Russian troops carried out strikes on Zaporizhzhia and the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that during the nighttime attack, Ukrainian forces shot down 175 aerial targets.
“In total, our soldiers shot down 175 aerial targets last night, but, unfortunately, not all of them. Despite very good results against cruise missiles, it is particularly difficult with ballistic missiles, and every day we emphasize to our partners our need for interceptors,” the head of state said.
According to him, Ukraine continues to discuss the supply of air defense systems with American and European partners.
In particular, new meetings are planned with representatives of countries and companies that can assist with the supply of interceptors and the development of the FREYJA anti-ballistic system.
“I thank all partners who prioritize providing Ukraine with air defense assistance. This directly means saving people’s lives,” Zelenskyy concluded.
Rescue workers, utility services, and other specialized units continue to work at the sites of the strikes.
Ukrainian authorities are verifying information on the extent of the damage and the number of casualties in various regions following the Russian Federation’s nighttime and morning attacks.
Overnight, Russian troops struck a market in the suburbs of Odesa. The attack damaged market stalls and injured one person.
On September 8, Russian troops launched an attack with two “Shahed” drones on the Kyiv–Sumy train. The train had been stopped in advance, and passengers and crew members were evacuated following a warning from the Ukrzaliznytsia monitoring team.
As a reminder, fires broke out at industrial facilities in the Kyiv region as a result of the Russian Federation’s attack.
Russia also launched a massive attack on Kyiv, killing and wounding civilians.
