Ukraine's air defense forces shot down 190 of 219 enemy drones during a nighttime attack by Russia
Ukraine’s air defense forces shot down 190 of the 219 drones used by Russian troops to attack Ukraine beginning on the evening of April 17. The attack came from various directions and involved Shahed-type drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force on Telegram.
According to military sources, starting at 6:00 p.m. on April 17, the Russians launched 219 Shahed, “Gerbera,” “Italmas,” and other types of strike UAVs from the territory of the Russian Federation and the temporarily occupied Crimea. Approximately 150 of the drones were Shaheds.
The launches were carried out from the directions of Shatalovo, Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russian Federation), and Chauda (temporarily occupied territory of Crimea).
The air attack was repelled by aviation units, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
As of 08:30 on April 18, the destruction or neutralization of 190 enemy drones in the north, south, and east of the country has been confirmed.
At the same time, 28 strike UAVs were recorded hitting 17 locations, and debris from downed drones was found at 9 locations.
“The attack is ongoing; several enemy drones remain in the airspace,” the Air Force reported.
On the night of April 18, Russian troops launched a targeted strike on port infrastructure and logistics facilities in the Odesa region. The attack resulted in one casualty and significant damage.
In the Chernihiv region, on the morning of April 18, approximately 380,000 consumers were left without power as a result of a Russian attack.
The day before, Russian troops carried out a massive drone attack on the energy infrastructure of the Zhytomyr region, concentrating the strike of approximately 20 drones on a single substation. The energy company stated that critical infrastructure facilities remain one of the enemy’s main targets and confirmed the attack.
Russian occupiers attacked a car with an FPV drone in the Myrivska community of the Nikopol district in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
