Putin Set a Condition for a New Meeting with Trump

Vladimir Putin is ready to hold another meeting with Donald Trump, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on September 23. According to him, the talks are possible once a specific agreement on holding official negotiations has been reached.

 

“Putin remains ready for a new meeting with Trump,” Peskov said.

However, he also acknowledged that there are currently no specifics on this matter.

The Kremlin spokesman added that without an official agreement, talks between the Russian leader and the U.S. president are impossible.

Against this backdrop, Peskov reiterated that Moscow’s position regarding a possible meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains unchanged.

“If he (Zelenskyy—ed.) wishes, he can come to Moscow,” Peskov said.

According to Peskov, organizing a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy before work has been done at the expert level is impractical, since, he claimed, it would be a waste of time.

“There are currently no preconditions for moving to a peaceful track of negotiations regarding Ukraine, although Russia remains open to them,” Peskov cynically lied.

Moreover, the Kremlin spokesman once again complained that Kyiv’s allies are actively supplying the Ukrainian Armed Forces with weapons and providing financial support to Ukraine.

He also began to fabricate claims that Britain is engaged in “stoking Russophobic sentiments.”

“Germany, France, and a number of other European countries are doing the same thing in unison with Britain,” Peskov lied.

Prior to this, Trump stated that Putin was ready to meet for peace talks.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he hopes to end the full-scale war before winter with the help of U.S. President Donald Trump. 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump began their meeting on September 22 at the UN headquarters in New York. The talks are taking place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly after the leaders agreed to meet during a phone call.
