Putin called for increased support for the war among Russians
The Russian dictator stated that it is necessary to more actively build public support for the war against Ukraine. According to him, it is necessary to convince citizens of the “importance” of the Russian military’s participation in combat operations and to preserve the sense of unity that, he claims, emerged during the war.
“We need to instill in the consciousness of our society the importance of the cause you are serving,” Putin said, addressing participants in the so-called “special military operation.”
He also expressed confidence that the war would end “sooner or later,” but stressed the need to preserve the “sense of unity” that, in his words, has formed during this time.
In addition, Putin once again repeated the propaganda narrative that Russia allegedly “did not start the war” and once more presented his own version of the history of the Donbas.
At the same time, according to the independent Levada Center, 64% of Russians support the start of peace talks, while only 29% support continuing the war.
Putin made these remarks during a meeting with servicemen of the Russian Navy, according to the Kremlin press service.
As a reminder, Russia may take steps in the coming months that will serve as a direct test of the readiness of the United Kingdom and its NATO allies to respond. This assessment, citing intelligence sources, was published by the British newspaper Daily Mail.
