Russia attacked Ukraine with ballistic missiles and 167 drones; air defense forces destroyed 128 enemy targets
On the night of September 5, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using “Iskander-M/KN-23” ballistic missiles and 167 attack drones.
The enemy shelling began at 6:00 p.m. on September 4.
For the strikes, the enemy used missiles launched from the Rostov and Voronezh regions of the Russian Federation, while the drones were launched from the directions of Orel, Millerovo, Kursk, the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region, and Gvardeyskoye in Crimea.
In total, Russian forces deployed 167 strike UAVs, including:
- Shahed, about half of which were jet-powered;
- “Gerbera”;
- “Parody” decoy drones.
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data, as of 8:30 a.m. on September 5, Ukrainian air defense had shot down or neutralized 128 enemy drones of the Shahed and “Gerbera” types, as well as other types of drones.
At the same time, missile and strike UAV strikes were recorded at 23 locations.
At one additional location, the fall of downed enemy targets and their debris was recorded.
According to the Air Force, some of the Russian munitions failed to reach their targets. Information regarding these incidents is currently being verified.
Thus, the Russian attack on the night of September 5 was yet another massive strike involving ballistic missiles and a large number of attack drones. Ukrainian air defense forces continue to work to repel enemy air attacks.

Russian occupiers attacked the “Epicenter” shopping mall in Mykolaiv several times. Two people were injured as a result of the strikes, and fires broke out at the impact sites.
In Kyiv, Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine had proposed to Russia—the aggressor state—that it temporarily suspend airstrikes during negotiations related to possible visits by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
