Russia attacked Ukraine with nearly 180 drones from seven directions
On the night of 17 March, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine, deploying 178 strike drones of various types. Most of the targets were destroyed by air defences.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram.
The enemy used UAVs such as “Shahed”, “Gerbera” and “Italmas”, as well as other types of drones. Launches were carried out from the territory of the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied Crimea. Around 110 of them were Shahed-type drones.

The air assault was repelled by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups.
According to preliminary data, as of 08:00, Ukrainian air defences had shot down or suppressed 154 enemy drones. At the same time, 22 strike UAVs hit targets at 12 locations, while debris from intercepted drones fell in two additional locations.
“The attack is ongoing, with several enemy UAVs still in the airspace. Please follow safety rules,” the Air Force emphasised.
Northern and southern regions of Ukraine were affected by the attack.
The day before, Russian forces shelled the Zaitseve community in the Synelnykove district of the Dnipropetrovsk region. As a result of the strike, two people were killed and seven others were injured.
In addition, Russian forces carried out a targeted drone attack on civilian infrastructure in the city of Sumy.
