Russia Will Continue the War Against Ukraine and Rejects the Proposal Regarding Civilian Ships, Says Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow intends to continue the war against Ukraine until the West makes concessions to the Russian side. At the same time, he called the proposal to halt strikes on civilian ships in the Black Sea “unacceptable.”
According to the Russian minister, Moscow will allegedly continue to pursue its goals if Western countries do not agree to make concessions.
“We will achieve our goals not at the negotiating table—which would be better for us (and Anchorage proved that)—but on the battlefield, as Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly confirmed,” Lavrov said.
In this way, the Russian foreign minister effectively confirmed the Kremlin’s readiness to continue hostilities if Moscow does not receive the concessions it desires.
Lavrov also accused the West of allegedly repeatedly obstructing the conclusion of agreements between Russia and Ukraine.
According to him, Western countries had many opportunities to achieve peace, but each time they prevented Kyiv from concluding a corresponding agreement.
In this regard, Lavrov stated that Western countries should not “fuss” over their “new ideas” regarding Ukraine.
At the same time, he emphasized that Russia is not currently engaged in peace talks.
Separately, the Russian foreign minister commented on the proposal to halt attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea.
Lavrov called this initiative “unacceptable” and stated that Ukraine had put forward such a proposal.
According to him, Kyiv has also involved Turkey in discussions on this initiative.
Thus, the position of the Russian leadership, as articulated by Lavrov, indicates that Moscow is not demonstrating a willingness to end the war and is rejecting specific proposals to limit hostilities in the Black Sea.
Lavrov made these remarks in an interview with TV host Yulia Menshova.
