Russia reduces submarine strikes on Ukraine, navy spokesman explains why

Russian submarines, long regarded as a key covert threat in the Black Sea, have largely halted their active operations.

Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, spoke about the shift in Russian tactics and the current state of its fleet during a national television broadcast.

Previously, these submarines were the main carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles. However, deploying them at sea has now become a critical risk for the enemy.

He stressed that over the past two years Russia had relied heavily on its submarine component due to its stealth capabilities. The main advantage of submarines was their ability to reach launch positions undetected and strike Ukrainian cities.

At present, however, the activity of Russia’s submarine fleet has significantly decreased due to a number of technical and security factors.

Pletenchuk explained the reasons for this pause in detail: “A submarine is a complex mechanism that requires strict operating and maintenance conditions. And any maintenance now carries risks.”

It should be recalled that Russia recently attacked the Odesa region, leaving communities in Izmail district without power.

Russian forces also struck Naftogaz facilities in the Poltava and Sumy regions.
