Ryazan Oil Refinery Halts Oil Processing Following Drone Attack — Reuters
The Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of the largest in Russia, has halted crude oil processing following a drone strike. The facility may remain shut down for approximately two weeks.
“The Ryazan oil refinery halted operations on Wednesday. The shutdown is expected to last about two weeks,” said one of the sources.
It is noted that following an unscheduled shutdown, the facility typically needs time to resume production: it is necessary to restart the primary and secondary refining units, stabilize the technological processes, and restore the product’s standard specifications.
The infrastructure of the Ryazan Oil Refinery had already been damaged during a drone attack on May 15, which also led to a suspension of operations.
Despite the production shutdown, as of Thursday, the refinery continued to sell petroleum products on the St. Petersburg International Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange. According to exchange data, batches of gasoline and diesel fuel were put up for auction.
According to industry sources, in 2024 this refinery processed 13.1 million metric tons of crude oil, accounting for about 4.9% of Russia’s total crude oil refining volume. Last year, it produced 2.2 million metric tons of gasoline, 3.4 million metric tons of diesel fuel, and 4.3 million metric tons of fuel oil.

Among the targets struck were the Ryazan oil refinery, a base for Russian Black Sea Fleet vessels, a radar station, and military logistics facilities.
