Russia intensifies assaults: 222 battles on the front line in one day
Over the course of 22 January, 222 combat engagements were recorded on the Ukrainian front amid an escalation of hostilities.
Specialised units of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine report that the Pokrovsk direction remained the most active area of combat.
During the day, Russian forces carried out one missile strike and 85 air strikes, using 5,862 kamikaze drones and conducting 3,545 shelling attacks. Settlements including Dobropillia and Sviatopetrivka came under missile strikes. At the same time, the Defence Forces successfully struck two areas where enemy forces were concentrated.
The enemy also used 5,862 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,545 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas, 83 of them using multiple launch rocket systems.
Situation by directions
North Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions
Three combat engagements took place over the past day. In addition, the enemy carried out three air strikes, dropping five guided bombs, and conducted 72 shelling attacks on the positions of our troops and populated areas, one of them using a multiple launch rocket system.
South Slobozhanskyi direction
The enemy launched 12 assaults on the positions of our units in the areas of the settlements of Prylipka, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Ambarne, and towards Izbytske.
Kupiansk direction
One enemy attack was recorded over the day. Defence Forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions near the settlement of Synkivka.
Lyman direction
The enemy attacked ten times, attempting to advance in the areas of the settlements of Myrne, Drobyshcheve, Kolodiazi, Zarichne, Yampil and Yampolivka.
Sloviansk direction
Near the settlements of Sviato-Pokrovske, Pazeno and Siversk, the enemy attacked the positions of our troops five times.
Kramatorsk direction
Seven combat engagements were recorded in the areas of the settlements of Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Chasiv Yar, and towards Markove.
Kostiantynivka direction
The enemy carried out 20 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Predtechyne, Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Yablunivka, Rusyn Yar and Sofiivka.
Pokrovsk direction
Our defenders stopped 92 assault and offensive actions by the aggressor in the areas of the settlements of Shakhove, Ivanivka, Dorozhnie, Rodynske, Sukhetske, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Horikhove, Dachne, and towards Novopavlivka.
Oleksandrivka direction
The enemy attacked our positions 12 times in the areas of the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Verbove, Stepove, Vyshneve, Krasnohirskе, and towards Nechaivka.
Huliaipole direction
The enemy attempted to advance on the positions of our defenders 37 times in the areas of Solodke, Varvarivka, Huliaipole, and towards Zelenyi and Dobropillia.
Orikhiv direction
Our defenders repelled an attack near the settlement of Plavni.
Over the past day, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to advance in the Dnipro direction.
Volyn and Polissia directions
No signs of the formation of enemy offensive groupings were detected.
As of the morning of 23 January 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a significant increase in losses of the Russian army. Over the past day, the destruction of more than 1,200 enemy troops was confirmed, indicating prolonged and intense fighting along the front line.
