Russia attacks Ukraine with 94 drones; air defence shoots down most
On the night of March 12, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using dozens of strike drones of various types. Most of the aerial targets were intercepted by Ukraine’s air defence forces.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the military, from 6 p.m. on March 11, a total of 94 drones — including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmass, and others — were launched. The attacks originated from Russian territory — including Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk — as well as from Hvardiiske in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. More than 60 of the drones were Shahed-type.
The response to the attack involved aircraft, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces.
As of 09:00 on March 12, 77 drones had been destroyed or suppressed across the north, south, and east of the country. At the same time, 16 strike drones hit 11 locations, and debris from downed drones was recorded at another location.
“The attack continues, with several enemy drones still in the air. Follow safety rules,” Ukrainian military officials warned.
During the night of March 12, Russian forces also carried out drone strikes on settlements in Kharkiv region. Strikes were recorded in the Zolochiv, Malynivka, and Velykoburlutsk communities, as well as in Kharkiv city itself.
In addition, Russian troops attacked the border area of Chernihiv region with unmanned aerial vehicles, resulting in the tragic death of a child.
Earlier, in Zaporizhzhia region, Russian forces attacked an evacuation vehicle using FPV drones.
Russian troops also struck a meat-processing plant in Kharkiv, leaving three women in serious condition.
