Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and more than 150 drones
On the night of September 17, Russian forces launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine. The occupiers used ballistic and cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles, and more than 150 attack drones, focusing their main strikes on the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa regions.
On the night of September 17 (starting at 6:00 p.m. on September 16), the enemy attacked:
- “Onyx” anti-ship missiles from the Kursk region of the Russian Federation;
- “Iskander-M”/“S-400”/“KN-23” ballistic missiles from the Bryansk and Voronezh regions of the Russian Federation;
- 4 “Kalibr” sea-launched cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea;
- 10 “Banderol”/“Dan-T” missiles from the airspace over the Azov Sea;
- 157 Shahed-type strike UAVs (more than half of which are jet-powered) and “Parody”-type decoy drones from the following directions: Orel, Millerovo—Russian Federation, Donetsk (temporarily occupied territory), Gvardeyskoye—Crimea (temporarily occupied territory).
The main targets of the attack were the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa regions.
The air attack was repelled by the Ukrainian Air Force, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data, as of 08:00, air defense forces had shot down or neutralized 131 targets:
- 7 “Banderole”/“Dan-T”;
- 124 Shahed-type UAVs, “Gerbera” drones, and other types of drones.
Enemy missiles and attack UAVs were recorded striking 36 locations, and downed targets (debris) were found at 5 locations.

Russia also launched missile strikes on Zaporizhzhia; there are casualties.
Earlier, Russia struck Odesa and damaged a high-rise building.
On September 15, a Russian drone strike was recorded in Kyiv’s Svyatoshynsky District. Black smoke is rising from the site.
In the Solomyanskyi district of the capital, a strike was recorded on the grounds of a garage cooperative.
