Which regions were targeted
Zelenskyy noted that Russian forces struck critical and civilian infrastructure in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Odesa regions. In the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, Russian strikes targeted residential buildings in particular. The Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Cherkasy regions were also under attack.
According to the president, Russian attacks have been ongoing throughout the week and are not limited to military targets. Russian troops are attacking residential neighborhoods, businesses, energy facilities, and other civilian infrastructure. As a result, the shelling has caused damage to buildings, fires, disruptions to business operations, and deaths and injuries.
Strike on a Monastery in the Kherson Region
Volodymyr Zelenskyy specifically mentioned the attack on a men’s monastery in the Kherson region. The day before, Russian forces struck the monastery with an FPV drone in the village of Chervonyi Mayak in the Novorayska community. A 71-year-old clergyman was killed in the attack. Four other priests were injured.
According to preliminary reports, the victims suffered blast injuries. This attack is yet another example of Russian forces targeting civilian facilities and people who are not participating in hostilities.
Zelenskyy called on partners to increase pressure on Russia
The president emphasized that Ukraine continues to seek ways to defend itself against Russian attacks and respond to them. At the same time, Zelenskyy called on international partners to increase pressure on Russia. “Ukraine is constantly seeking and finding ways to defend itself and respond to these attacks on human life. It is important that our partners also seek and find ways to make Russia feel the full brunt of its own war,” the president stated.
According to him, there is now an opportunity to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia. “Right now is the right moment to take new sanctions measures against the aggressor and force peace through strength,” Zelenskyy said.
He added that the United States, European countries, and the “Group of Seven” nations possess the necessary tools. “America has these capabilities, Europe has them, and all the G7 countries have them. We are counting on new, strong measures,” the president concluded.
According to Zelenskyy, Russia continues to use large numbers of drones, aerial bombs, and missiles to strike Ukraine. Kyiv expects its partners to impose new sanctions and increase pressure on Russia in response to these attacks. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Facebook.

Currently, the Ukrainian side continues to develop long-range weapons and strike Russian military and industrial facilities which, according to Ukraine, are linked to supplying its army. On the night of September 20, Moscow and the Moscow region came under a massive drone attack. One of the strikes hit the Gazpromneft-MNPZ oil refinery in the Kapotnya district of Moscow, after which a fire broke out at the facility.
