Russia has concentrated its forces for an offensive in the Lyman area — Tregubov
Russian troops have concentrated their most intense assault operations in the Lyman sector, attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses and advance toward Lyman. At the same time, the occupiers have stepped up their offensive operations in the Rai-Oleksandrivka area, where they are attempting to outflank the Defense Forces’ positions from the southern flank.
This was reported on July 28 on the “Suspilne Studio” program by Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation. According to him, Russian units have so far only managed to approach the eastern outskirts of Lyman. Meanwhile, the enemy is concentrating its greatest efforts further south—in the Rai-Oleksandrivka area.
Tregubov noted that Ukrainian defenses in this sector are well-prepared. An extensive system of engineering fortifications has been established here, along with a so-called “kill zone,” where Russian troops suffer significant losses even as they approach the Defense Forces’ positions.
As a result, the Russian Federation’s army hardly uses armored vehicles at all. Assault operations are primarily carried out by small infantry groups attempting to advance undetected across the front line, avoiding detection by Ukrainian drones and reconnaissance assets. The occupiers are also increasingly using motorized vehicles, while large-scale mechanized attacks are rarely carried out.
According to the spokesperson, similar tactics are being employed in other sectors of the front, but the Lyman sector currently remains one of the most active.
In addition, Russian troops continue to make massive use of guided aerial bombs. According to Tregubov, dozens of guided aerial bombs strike Ukrainian military positions every day, primarily in the Kupiansk and Lyman sectors.

As a reminder, Russian troops in the Lyman sector alternate between periods of relative calm and sudden intensification of assaults, attempting to catch Ukrainian defenders off guard. The occupiers are using dense vegetation to approach Ukrainian Armed Forces positions covertly, according to the 66th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
