The Russians destroyed a unique 300-year-old Cossack church in the Kherson region

In Beryslav, the Holy Vvedenskaya Church—an architectural monument of national significance—was completely destroyed by fire on August 2 as a result of a Russian drone strike. The church was built of oak without a single metal nail back in 1726 and was considered a unique example of Zaporizhian church architecture.

The church was originally built in the Poltava region, and in 1785, the Cossacks transported it down the Dnipro River on rafts to Kyzykermen (present-day Beryslav). The structure survived the Soviet era and World War II, and after the de-occupation of the right bank of the Kherson region, it remained one of the few undamaged religious buildings in the region.

Local authorities note that the church was under the administration of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), and that its former rector collaborated with the invaders during the occupation and fled with them. Before the full-scale war and its destruction, this “wooden church” was considered one of the most famous landmarks of traditional Ukrainian architecture.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian troops carried out a targeted strike against sappers from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service who were conducting demining operations.

On the morning of August 3, Russian troops attacked a police crew with an FPV drone as they were heading to evacuate residents of the Kupiansk district in the Kharkiv region. Andriy Kanashevych, head of the Kupiansk District Military Administration, reported this on Suspilne TV.
