Russian forces have intensified their infantry attacks in the Pokrovsk direction

UA NEWS 09 June 2026 10:13
Russian forces have intensified their infantry attacks in the Pokrovsk direction

In the Pokrovsk sector, Russian forces continue to rely on infantry assaults and are using makeshift multiple launch rocket systems. At the same time, Ukrainian defenders are successfully holding back the enemy’s offensive, inflicting significant losses in manpower and equipment.

He noted that in the sector of the 7th Airborne Corps, the Russians continue to press forward with infantry and are using single-shot variants of the "Grad" systems.

Intense assaults in the Hryshyne area and Russian group tactics

The enemy is currently concentrating its main pressure in the Hryshyne area. According to Ukrainian military officials, Russian units continue to “seep in” in small groups, attempting to establish a foothold in new positions.

“On the front line, about a hundred infantrymen are effectively on the move all the time,” the officer noted.

At the same time, most of these groups fail to achieve their objectives. According to the colonel’s assessment, Ukrainian units destroy or wound up to 60–70% of the enemy’s assault groups every day.

Artillery and the Limitations of Russian Forces

Despite the losses, the Russian command continues to throw personnel into offensive operations.

At the same time, the occupiers are attempting to move artillery, particularly D-30 howitzers, closer to the front line. However, as noted, due to the constant threat of strikes by Ukrainian drones and artillery, their capabilities are becoming increasingly limited.

Use of improvised systems and assessment of Russian tactics

Military analysts are paying particular attention to the use of the "Capricorn" launcher—essentially a single-shot launcher for rocket projectiles from the BM-21 "Grad."

According to Polevoy, such equipment indicates a shortage among the Russians of standard multiple-launch rocket systems capable of firing rapidly and changing positions.

“This is a single shot, not a salvo of 20 or 40 rockets. At the same time, we can see them and destroy them,” he explained.

The colonel compared such approaches to practices from the Vietnam War era:

"This is a return to the tactics of the last century, when they try to strengthen the artillery component at the expense of infantry lives," Polevoy concluded.

Colonel Volodymyr Polevyi, head of the communications department of the 7th Airborne Corps, spoke about this on Army TV.
