Saratov region attacked by drones, more than 60 explosions reported

The night of 5 March became a serious test for Russia’s strategic facilities in the Saratov region. More than sixty powerful explosions thundered over Saratov and Engels, where a strategic aviation airbase is located.

This was reported by Russian media.

Local authorities are trying to calm the population, but fires are burning in the region and some districts have been left without electricity.

The drone attack began at around 23:00 and lasted several hours. Witnesses say the sky over the cities literally “glowed” from explosions and the work of air defences, but it was not possible to avoid incoming strikes.

Scale: at least 60 detonations.

Consequences: a large fire in one of the districts of Saratov, which was extinguished for several hours.

Blackout: partial loss of electricity due to damage to power lines.

Governor Roman Busargin called the attack “the most massive of the year.” According to official data, civilian infrastructure was damaged and three people were injured.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence reported the downing of 48 drones, however Ukrainian monitoring resources recorded successful hits:

Saratov Oil Refinery: a powerful attack accompanied by a large-scale fire.

Engels-2 airbase: a strategic base for Tu-95MS bombers, where drone activity is critical for Russian aviation.

The situation in the region remains tense, emergency services continue clearing debris and eliminating the consequences of the “arrivals”.

Combat operations are increasingly being transferred to the territory of the aggressor country, returning to those who unleashed the full-scale war.

It should be recalled that in the Kupiansk direction the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a camouflaged MT-LB and drones of the occupiers.

Also in Russia, drones attacked the “VNIIR-Progress” plant in Cheboksary.
