The SBU detained a Russian agent who was coordinating strikes on Kharkiv
The SBU exposed and detained a Russian agent in Kharkiv who was assisting the enemy in directing strikes against Defense Forces targets. The detainee was accused of coordinating Russian attacks on military facilities in the city.
According to the SBU, he turned out to be a local man subject to military conscription who, while evading mobilization, began coordinating strikes on the city at the behest of the Russian Federation.
It was established that the suspect made contact with Russian intelligence agencies via Telegram channels and offered his assistance in the war against Ukraine.
Following the enemy’s instructions, he gathered information on the locations of Ukrainian Defense Forces bases, which the Russians used to plan combined attacks, including those involving guided aerial bombs and strike drones.
The Russians were most interested in the coordinates of backup command posts, concentrations of vehicles, and logistics depots belonging to Kharkiv’s defenders.
To gather intelligence, the perpetrator covertly solicited information from his wife and acquaintances, as he himself rarely left his home. The spotter then marked the geolocations of Ukrainian targets on Google Maps with corresponding comments for a subsequent report to the Russian Federation.
SBU officers gradually documented the informant’s crimes and detained him at his residence.
During searches of the detainee’s residence, investigators found three smartphones, which he constantly switched between to maintain covert communication with Russian intelligence agencies.
SBU investigators notified him that he was suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized disclosure of information regarding the movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations established in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law).
The suspect is currently in custody. He faces up to 8 years in prison, according to the SBU.
As a reminder, fires broke out at industrial facilities in the Kyiv region following an attack by the Russian Federation.
Russia also launched a massive attack on Kyiv, killing and wounding civilians.
