The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a deserter for preparing a terrorist attack in Kropyvnytskyi
The SBU counterintelligence service successfully prevented a terrorist act in the center of Kropyvnytskyi by detaining an agent of a Russian special service while he was preparing an assassination attempt on a government official.
This was reported by the SBU press service.
The suspect planned to eliminate the head of an institution responsible for the defense preparedness of the population of the Kirovohrad region using an improvised explosive device.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator is a 27-year-old mobilized serviceman who had gone absent without leave from a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was hiding in the region.
While searching for quick money through advertisements on the Telegram messenger, the deserter came to the attention of an officer of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), whose identity has already been established by Ukrainian counterintelligence.
The agent was tasked with tracking the official and blowing him up with a remotely controlled bomb near a local café frequently visited by the intended victim.
To carry out the criminal plan, the suspect conducted daily surveillance, studying the target’s schedule and movement routes through the city streets.
“While trying to find ‘easy money’ in Telegram channels, the deserter came to the attention of an FSB officer, whose identity has already been established by SBU counterintelligence,” the SBU statement said.
After another reconnaissance outing, the detainee sent his handler the coordinates of the selected catering establishment where the explosion was supposed to take place.
The next stage of cooperation was to involve detailed instructions from the occupiers on how to independently manufacture the explosive device and methods for planting it covertly.
SBU officers detained the accomplice “red-handed” at the very moment he reported to his Russian handler that he was fully ready to carry out the terrorist attack.
During a search, law enforcement officers seized the suspect’s mobile phone, which contained correspondence with the enemy and photographic evidence of the target site.
The detainee has now been served with a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, classified as high treason committed under martial law.
The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention without the possibility of bail.
For crimes against national security, the traitor faces the maximum penalty — life imprisonment with full confiscation of property.
