Sibiga called on UNESCO to punish Russia following the attack on the Academy of Sciences

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga called on UNESCO to strip Russia of its voting rights and the ability to be elected to the organization’s governing and working bodies following Russia’s strike on the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv.

Sybiga emphasized that the Russian military struck the scientific institution in broad daylight while people were inside. The attack resulted in deaths and injuries.

“There is no limit to Russian cynicism. A scientific institution full of people in the middle of the workday has become yet another target of its terror,” the foreign minister stated.

According to him, Moscow is testing how far the international community will allow it to go. Sibiga believes that the lack of a strong response to Russian strikes creates conditions for new attacks.

The minister also called on international partners to provide Ukraine with more capabilities to intercept Russian missiles, to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia, and to impose restrictions on those who help Moscow sustain its war machine.

Separately, Sibiga addressed UNESCO, which is dedicated, among other things, to protecting science and the scientific community. Ukraine called for Russia to be stripped of its voting rights in the organization, as well as its ability to be elected to its governing and working bodies.
