Air Defence Forces eliminated 244 aerial targets during the night attack
On the night of 9 January (starting from 07:30p.m. on 8 January), the enemy carried out a combined strike on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure facilities using attack UAVs, as well as sea- and ground-launched missiles.
The main direction of the attack was Kyiv region, the Air Defence Forces reported.
In total, the radio-technical troops of the Air Force detected and tracked 278 aerial attack assets — 36 missiles and 242 UAVs of various types:
- 242 attack UAVs of the Shahed and Gerbera types (as well as UAVs of other types) launched from the directions of Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk — Russian Federation; Chauda, Hvardiiske — temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea; Donetsk (about 150 of them were Shaheds);
- 13 Iskander-M / S-400 ballistic missiles (launch areas — Bryansk region, Russian Federation);
- 22 Kalibr cruise missiles (from the waters of the Black Sea);
- 1 medium-range ballistic missile (from the Kapustin Yar test site, Astrakhan region, Russian Federation).

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
According to preliminary data, as of 09:00, air defence shot down or suppressed 244 aerial targets:
- 226 enemy Shahed and Gerbera UAVs (and UAVs of other types);
- 8 Iskander-M / S-400 ballistic missiles;
- 10 Kalibr cruise missiles.
Impacts of 18 missiles and 16 attack UAVs were recorded at 19 locations.
Russian terrorist forces carried out a massive strike on residential areas of Kyiv, causing damage to civilian facilities in several districts of the capital, in particular in Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Desnianskyi, Pecherskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.
