Vatican Special Envoy to Hold Talks in Russia on Ukraine

Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Special Envoy of Pope Leo XIV, will arrive in Moscow on September 27 to hold talks with Russian officials regarding Ukraine.

The meetings will take place from September 28 to 30 and will be a continuation of the Vatican’s humanitarian mission, which began under Pope Francis.

During the talks, Zuppi plans to help resolve a number of issues, including:
• the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia;
• the exchange of prisoners of war;
• the resolution of other civilian problems caused by the war.

The special envoy noted that the Vatican regularly receives and processes humanitarian appeals from both Ukraine and Russia and plans to continue the dialogue to help bring the war to an end.
