Tyagnibok reported the death of a soldier from the Legion of Freedom
In August 2026, the body of Oleksandr Kulikovsky, a soldier with the “Legion of Freedom” who died while defending Ukraine, was identified. According to preliminary reports, the soldier was killed on July 3, 2024, near Staromayorske in the Volnovakha sector. Prior to this, he had been listed as missing in action for over two years.
Oleg Tyagnibok, chairman of the “Svoboda” All-Ukrainian Union and a military officer, announced Kulikovsky’s death. According to him, Oleksandr Kulikovsky was a soldier in the 204th Separate Territorial Defense Battalion. He most likely died on July 3, 2024, near Staromayorske in the Volnovakha sector.
Kulikovsky was born on May 19, 1980. He was an activist with the Rivne Regional and Kyiv City organizations of the “Svoboda” All-Ukrainian Union. Before the start of the full-scale invasion, he was involved in civic and political activities. In 2014, he ran for a seat on the Kyiv City Council.
Kulikovsky also served as deputy chairman of the “Lustration” civic organization and was one of the authors of the lustration bill proposed by the “Svoboda” All-Ukrainian Union. For some time, he worked as an assistant and advisor to Oleg Osukhovsky, a member of parliament from “Svoboda.” “He was an active volunteer and later voluntarily joined the army,” Tyahnybok said.
For over two years, his family waited for news
After Kulikovsky went missing in July 2024, he was added to the lists of those missing in action. His relatives and comrades-in-arms held out hope until the very end that he might have survived and been held captive. However, in August 2026, he was identified among the fallen. “He had been on the list of missing in action since July 2024; there was hope that the nationalist was being held captive. Unfortunately, he was ultimately identified among the dead in August 2026. Our condolences to his family and loved ones. Eternal memory and glory to the Hero!” Tyahnybok wrote.
What Is the “Legion of Freedom”?
The “Legion of Freedom” is an association of members of the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda” who are participating in the Russian-Ukrainian war as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It includes servicemen from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard, special units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and volunteer formations.
The group was established in February 2015 by a resolution of the “Svoboda” All-Ukrainian Union congress. At the time of its creation, more than a thousand people had joined it. According to the party, the “Legion of Freedom” currently includes, among others, elected officials at various levels, as well as officials from state and local government bodies. The death of Oleksandr Kulikovsky was confirmed only more than two years after his disappearance. He died defending Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
