The Center for Digital Policy warned of a new Russian AI campaign on TikTok featuring fake veterans
The Center for Countering Disinformation has reported a new Russian AI campaign on TikTok that uses fake images of Ukrainian veterans. According to the Center, these videos are intended to undermine trust in the state and divide Ukrainian society.
The creators of these videos deliberately emphasize emotional appeal in an attempt to stifle viewers’ critical thinking.
In reality, all of these videos are entirely generated by artificial intelligence. The videos are disseminated through a network of bot accounts operating according to the standard algorithm of Russian psychological operations. The Center recently documented a similar hostile campaign: at that time, the Russians released AI videos featuring “emotional Ukrainian women” who, in tears and hysterics, spoke out about mobilization and corruption.
The goal of this campaign is to exploit the sensitive topic of respect for veterans, artificially create a sense of chaos, discredit state institutions, and sow despair among Ukrainians, the Center for Public Diplomacy noted.
As a reminder, 629 drones attacked Russia overnight, with more than 350 of them heading toward Moscow.
