Russian officer Viktor Basenko was killed in Donetsk

In occupied Donetsk, Viktor Basenko—one of the senior staff officers of Russia’s 25th Combined Arms Army—was killed in a strike on a Russian military command post. He served as chief of staff for logistics for the Russian military group.

According to available information, Viktor Basenko was killed on August 26 as a result of a strike on a Russian command post in Donetsk.

The 46-year-old Russian officer was in charge of the logistics headquarters of the Russian Federation’s 25th Combined Arms Army in the Central Military District.

This unit, in particular, is responsible for organizing the supply of everything necessary for Russian troops to conduct combat operations on the front lines.

Details of the strike itself, as well as the exact circumstances of the officer’s death, remain limited at this time. Information about Basenko’s death was made public after his identity was confirmed.

His daughter shared the news of 46-year-old Viktor Basenko’s death on social media.

According to her, it is difficult for the family to believe that a loved one has died and to come to terms with the loss.

At the same time, no official details regarding the circumstances of the Russian soldier’s death have been reported so far.

Russia’s 25th Combined Arms Army was formed in 2022 following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Its units are engaged in combat operations on Ukrainian territory.

This has been reported by the Ukrainian OSINT monitoring channel Exilenova+ and Russian media outlets.

Previously, OSINT monitoring had made it possible to identify the Russian officers who were killed during a strike on a command post in Donetsk on September 8, 2025.

A high-ranking Russian officer, Colonel Andrey Krestyansky, was killed in Ukraine. He served as a senior instructor and inspector at the Training Center for Command Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense’s military units.

The “Russian Officers Killed in Ukraine” project has uncovered evidence of the death of another officer from Russia’s 41st Combined Arms Army. The officer in question is Lieutenant Colonel Artem Akimov, who served as deputy commander of the army’s air defense command. Researchers speculate that he may have been killed during a Ukrainian strike on a command post in Donetsk on August 26, but this version of events has not yet been independently confirmed.
