In the Russian Federation, the first separate barracks for political prisoners has been established in Kolyma

Magadan Penal Colony No. 3 has set up a separate barracks for inmates convicted of spreading anti-war “fake news,” “discrediting” the army, and “justifying terrorism.”

This was reported by the independent regional publication “NeMoskva.” These convicts are held in isolation from the rest of the inmates as a separate category of dangerous individuals.

The majority of those isolated are first-time offenders serving sentences for comments on social media or emotional statements, including entrepreneurs, doctors, retirees, historians, and media workers. Political prisoners are transported and lined up separately from others, and their barracks, equipped with bunk beds, are designed to hold 120 people. The barracks are constantly cold and smell of dampness, and for the slightest violation of the rules—such as attempting to sit on a bed during the day—inmates are punished by being placed in solitary confinement.

In Moscow, a court sentenced Tikhon Dzyadko, editor-in-chief of the TV channel “Dozhd, in absentia to eight years in prison. The journalist was found guilty in a case involving so-called “fake news” about the Russian army due to social media posts regarding events in Bucha and Irpin.

Vladimir Yarotsky, an artist from Krasnodar who had previously been convicted of spreading “fake news” about the Russian army and “desecrating” symbols of military glory, died in a Russian penal colony.
