A fire broke out at a defense plant that manufactures optical equipment in Russia
On the afternoon of June 11, a massive fire broke out in Novosibirsk, Russia, on the grounds of the former Ekran factory, where the company Ekran-Optical Systems is currently operating.
The fire started in a three-story brick warehouse for plastic products, and the total area affected by the fire quickly reached 2,800 square meters. Local residents reported a massive column of black smoke visible from various parts of the city, as well as a series of explosions. According to preliminary reports from officials, the fire may have been caused by construction work being carried out at the site.
The company in question is a leading manufacturer of electro-optical converters for night vision devices and photomultipliers in Russia. These products are actively used by the Russian military-industrial complex in radiation monitoring defense systems, space reconnaissance equipment, laser rangefinders, and target designators for high-precision weapons. Currently, the plant is officially part of the well-known Russian RATM Holding.
