A fire broke out at the Rosneft oil refinery in Syzran following a drone attack
On the night of September 15, a fire broke out near the Rosneft oil refinery in Syzran, Samara Oblast, Russia. OSINT sources claim that drones may have struck the facility.
Explosions were heard in Syzran during the night, after which a fire broke out in the industrial zone. Footage released by local media shows intense flames and a large plume of smoke.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Syzran Oil Refinery, owned by the Russian oil company Rosneft, was targeted. OSINT sources report a fire on the plant’s grounds; however, there is not yet sufficient independent confirmation regarding which specific facility or tank may have been damaged.
The refinery is located in the Samara region; according to Reuters, its design capacity is 8.5 million metric tons of crude oil per year, or about 170,000 barrels per day. In 2024, the plant processed 4.3 million metric tons of crude oil, producing 1.5 million metric tons of diesel fuel, 800,000 metric tons of gasoline, and 700,000 metric tons of fuel oil. The refinery produces a wide range of petroleum products—motor and jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and liquefied petroleum gases—and is part of Rosneft’s Samara Group of oil refineries.
