More than a thousand people still live in the Svyatogorsk community
There are still 1,087 people remaining in the Svyatogorsk community in Donetsk Oblast, despite constant Russian shelling. Over the past week, seven residents, including one child, were evacuated from the dangerous area, while Russian troops continue to attack the area daily with airstrikes, drones, and artillery.
More than a thousand people remain in the Svyatogorsk community in Donetsk Oblast. According to local authorities, 1,087 residents have not yet left the community, which is under constant Russian attack. Over the past week, the evacuation effort has allowed seven more people to be evacuated. Among them was one child.
According to him, the situation in the community remains difficult. Russian forces regularly use guided aerial bombs, drones, multiple launch rocket systems, and artillery against populated areas. In other words, the danger to people here remains constant. Despite this, some residents still refuse to evacuate.
Russia drops dozens of aerial bombs every day
Rybalkin also spoke about the intensity of Russian strikes in this area. According to him, in the area covering Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, Sviatohirsk, Lyman, and part of the Kharkiv region, the Russian army deploys approximately 144 guided aerial bombs every 24 hours.
This is one of the main types of weaponry Russia uses to strike populated areas and Ukrainian military positions. In addition to airstrikes, Russian troops are using drones and artillery. As a result, even staying in populated areas that remain under Ukrainian control can be dangerous. Ukrainian authorities continue to urge people to leave areas close to the front lines. Evacuation allows civilians to be moved to safer regions while it is still possible.
Stores Are Open in Svyatogorsk
Despite the proximity of the front lines and constant shelling, part of the city’s infrastructure continues to function in Svyatogorsk itself. In particular, two grocery stores are open in the city. One of them already accepts bank cards.
Internet access has also become available in Sviatohirsk. This allows people to stay in touch with their loved ones and receive necessary information. At the same time, the presence of stores and internet access does not mean that the city is safe. The front line remains nearby, and Russian troops continue to shell the community regularly.
Russia claimed to have captured the city
Amid the complex situation surrounding Svyatogorsk, Russian propaganda has been spreading claims about the alleged capture of the city. In particular, Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that Russian troops had allegedly taken control of Svyatogorsk on August 31. Ukrainian authorities deny this.
The Donetsk Regional Military Administration emphasized that Svyatogorsk remains under Ukrainian control. “In fact, Svyatogorsk remains under Ukrainian control. The situation in the city is very complicated: the front line is nearby, and the Russians are relentlessly shelling Svyatogorsk, posing a constant threat to people and infrastructure,” the Regional Military Administration stated.
Thus, Ukrainian authorities are calling reports of the city’s alleged occupation false. Earlier, there were also reports of staged footage that Russian propaganda might have used to create the impression that Svyatogorsk had already been captured.
People continue to be evacuated
Despite the danger, more than a thousand civilians remain in the Svyatogorsk community. Over the past week, seven people have been evacuated. However, the pace of evacuation remains slow compared to the number of people still in the community. The main reason is the ongoing fighting and the proximity of the front lines. Russian troops are using various types of weapons, and the intensity of airstrikes remains high.
At the same time, Ukrainian authorities continue to control Svyatogorsk and deny Russian claims that it has been captured. Currently, the situation in the community remains very difficult. 1,087 people continue to live there, while Russian troops attack this area daily. The evacuation of civilians is ongoing, and local authorities are urging residents not to remain in the danger zone. This was reported by Volodymyr Rybalkin, head of the Svyatogorsk City Military Administration.
Andriy Biletsky, commander of the Third Army Corps, recorded a video address directly from Sviatohirsk. He stated that the city remains under the control of the Ukrainian military, thereby refuting claims by Russian officials that the town had allegedly been captured.
