Ukraine has formalized the Dovbush T40 long-range UAV
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has officially recognized the new domestically produced unmanned aerial system, the “Dovbush T40.” The drone is designed for long-range reconnaissance, fire control, and precision strikes, and its stated operational range is sufficient to reach targets beyond the Ural Mountains and in Siberia.
The Ukrainian military is receiving a new long-range unmanned aerial system. The Ministry of Defense has officially adopted the “Dovbush T40” UAS, which was developed and manufactured in Ukraine. This is a strategic-level unmanned aerial vehicle. It was created to operate far from the front lines—where it is needed to conduct reconnaissance, support artillery, or strike key enemy targets.
The “Dovbush T40” can perform several tasks simultaneously. These include deep reconnaissance, fire correction, and high-precision targeting. The targets include structures, military equipment, and Russian troops. Moreover, the drone can operate at a considerable distance from the line of engagement.
One of the system’s key features is its range. According to the Ministry of Defense, it is sufficient to engage targets beyond the Ural Mountains and in Russian Siberia. The drone itself has a wingspan of nearly 5 meters. It can remain airborne for more than a day, allowing it to be used for extended reconnaissance missions. During testing, the “Dovbush T40” confirmed its stated tactical and technical specifications.
The developers also claim that the drone has low radar cross-section. This should make it more difficult for enemy air defense systems to detect it. The drone is equipped with a high-performance engine featuring an electronic fuel injection system. Resistance to electronic warfare measures is cited as a distinct advantage. The “Dovbush T40” can employ various methods of engaging targets. Specifically, the system includes an option where the drone itself serves as a strike vehicle, as well as the capability to drop munitions. The Ministry of Defense notes that the system features state-of-the-art technology and is capable of carrying out missions over long distances.
Development of the “Dovbush” Line
The “Dovbush T40” was developed at a Ukrainian company specializing in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles. The developers already have experience creating systems for the Defense Forces. In particular, the “Dovbush T20” and “Kotygoroshko” have been in use on the front lines since 2022. The “Dovbush T20” was originally designed as a solution for medium-range reconnaissance. The drone was also used to correct artillery fire in real time and to carry out precision strikes.
Experience with the T20 and feedback from the military helped the developers create a new version. As a result, the “Dovbush T40” has a longer range and greater capabilities for strike missions. Following its formal adoption by the Ministry of Defense, the system can be officially procured for the Ukrainian Defense Forces and used by the Ukrainian military.
The new UAV is expected to enhance Ukraine’s capabilities for reconnaissance and striking targets far behind enemy lines. Of particular importance is its ability to carry out missions at long ranges, specifically deep behind Russian lines. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
