Ukraine has communicated its urgent needs for air defense systems to NATO
On the eve of the “Ramstein” meeting, Ukraine provided NATO with a list of urgent needs in the areas of air and missile defense. This includes the air and missile defense systems necessary to strengthen the country’s defenses.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense following an extraordinary meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council at the level of permanent representatives.
The meeting took place at NATO headquarters in Brussels, chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and was dedicated to strengthening Ukraine’s capabilities in the field of air and missile defense. It was convened at Ukraine’s initiative on the eve of the next “Ramstein” meeting—the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG).
Serhiy Boev, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense for European Integration, together with Brigadier General Serhiy Sobko, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, presented a detailed assessment of current air threats to the allies.
“It is important to focus on helping Ukraine here and now. Timeliness is currently more important than quantity. Drones and air defense systems will determine the course of this winter and whether Ukraine emerges from it weaker or stronger,” Boev emphasized.
The Ukrainian side provided a list of priority and urgent needs for air defense and missile defense systems.
Following the meeting, Ukraine called on its allies to shift from what is politically feasible to what is operationally necessary. This refers to the rapid provision of additional air defense and missile defense capabilities directly linked to protecting the lives of Ukrainians.
Ukraine also called on its partners to mobilize, by the end of the year, the resources necessary to fulfill NATO’s pledged level of military support for Ukraine, amounting to 70 billion euros.
Separately, the Ukrainian side emphasized that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense is in the security interests of the Alliance itself.
“A Russian drone or missile destroyed over Ukraine will never reach a NATO country. Just as a Russian soldier killed in Ukraine will never set foot on Alliance territory,” noted Alona Getmanchuk, Head of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO.
The issue of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and missile defense systems will remain a key focus for the allies during the upcoming “Ramstein” meeting, scheduled for September 8.

The Ministry of Defense has specified who is eligible for a deferment from mobilization in 2026.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with the “State Logistics Operator,” is preparing updates to the technical specifications for individual food rations. The changes are based on the results of a survey conducted via the “Army+” app, in which more than 60,000 military personnel participated.
For the first time, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has included halal and kosher dry rations in daily field rations. This decision was made with the religious beliefs of service members in mind and to improve nutritional standards in the Armed Forces.
