Ukraine has expanded its long-range strikes against Russia, and this is changing the situation — expert
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have significantly expanded their capabilities for long-range strikes against Russian territory. According to an expert, the expansion of the Deep Strike programs is already having an impact on both Ukraine’s adversaries and its international partners, forcing them to take this new factor into account in the security landscape.
This view was expressed in a comment to Ukrinform by Ivan Kyrychevsky, an arms expert at Defense Express and a serviceman with the SBU’s 413th “Raid” Regiment.
"At the same time, he explained that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ long-range weapons were already operating on Russian territory long before the world began discussing this. ‘The issue of range, thank God, has not been an issue in Ukraine for a long time. Our long-range systems were already in operation two years before the world took notice. The issue is one of scaling up, but, as we can see, everything is now in order with that as well,” said Kirichevsky.
He noted that Ukraine is deliberately withholding some information about the weapons used to strike Russia. It is enough that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the “creative development of long-range strikes” against the enemy in June.
“The success of such long-range combined strikes depends in no small part, in particular, on the element of surprise and on how well certain preparations are kept secret,” noted the Defense Express expert.
Kirichevsky also proudly shared the successes of the 413th SBS “Raid” Regiment, in which he serves. For example, the strike against the “Kremniy-El” plant, which produced military electronics. “No military electronics means no means to strike us,” Kirichevsky explained.
According to him, the SBS “Raid” regiment is systematically working to destroy Russian air defense systems. “In March, we had an excellent record of nine air defense systems and 14 radars. And in May, during the first week, we destroyed three Russian air defense systems,” the soldier said.
He added that the SBS operators of the “Raid” regiment are constantly attacking Russian oil refineries, participated alongside Navy personnel in strikes on the “Sivash” oil drilling platform in the Black Sea, and are also defending the skies over Ukraine’s civilian cities.
“Our anti-aircraft drone operators are showing good results in repelling massive strikes by Russian ‘Shaheds.’ One of our crews managed to shoot down seven Russian ‘Shaheds’ in a short time during a raid on Dnipro. Even according to the public data currently circulating, it takes at least four launches of anti-aircraft drones to shoot down a single target,” said Kyrychevsky.
The expert also emphasized that the strikes on Moscow, in which the “Reid” regiment was involved, do not replace the work of Ukrainian forces directly on the front lines. According to him, operations on Russian territory and the destruction of targets in the occupied territories are being conducted in parallel.
“It was precisely during the days of the attacks on Moscow that ‘Raid’ destroyed the command post of one of the brigades of the Russian Federation’s 51st Army in the Pokrovsk area. In other words, both vectors are working toward a common strategic goal—forcing the Russians to make peace,” Kirichevsky concluded.
