Ukraine struck a Russian Iskander near the border

The Ukrainian military struck a Russian launcher for the “Iskander” missile system that was located near the Ukrainian border. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the successful operation and stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are conducting a separate program to locate and destroy Russian systems used to launch ballistic missiles.

The president noted that due to the sensitivity of the operation, Ukraine cannot yet disclose all the details. At the same time, the fact that the Russian launcher was destroyed has already been confirmed. “Today we have another success. We cannot provide many details due to the sensitivity of the operation, but a fact is a fact. We struck an ‘Iskander’ launcher near our borders. I am grateful to our soldiers who carried this out,” Zelenskyy said.

According to him, the Ukrainian military is working specifically to locate and destroy Russian missile systems positioned near Ukraine. The president explained that this is one way to reduce the number of Russian ballistic strikes on Ukraine. The goal is to destroy the launchers before they have a chance to launch another strike. “This is our operation to hunt down their systems located nearby,” Zelenskyy noted.

He also explained that this tactic is partly due to the limited number of anti-ballistic missiles Ukraine has available to intercept Russian ballistic targets. “In other words, this is one approach given our limited supply of anti-ballistic missiles—there is another tactic, which is more complex, we’ve developed it—which involves targeting the launch sites from which the ballistic missiles are fired,” the president explained.

According to Zelenskyy, this operation is part of a separate program and mission by the Defense Forces. “This is a separate matter, a separate program, a separate operation. And today we managed to pull it off. Our Defense Forces did a great job,” he added. At the same time, details of the operation—including the exact location of the strike and the method by which the Ukrainian military destroyed the Russian launcher—are not being disclosed at this time. Zelenskyy mentioned this during a conversation with journalists.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed the destruction of a Russian Su-24M aircraft at the “Saki” airfield in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The strike on Russian military equipment took place on August 20; other enemy military equipment was also destroyed.

In Orenburg, drones attacked the logistics complex of the OZON marketplace. After debris fell onto the warehouse grounds, a fire broke out, and the company evacuated more than 300 employees and temporarily suspended the acceptance of deliveries.

Starting on the evening of August 22, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with 127 strike drones. Air defense forces neutralized 97 of them, but 27 drones were confirmed to have struck 22 locations.

Over the past day, the Russian army lost another 1,310 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian forces also destroyed one Russian aircraft, 26 armored combat vehicles, 69 artillery systems, and nearly 2,000 drones.

Over the past day, on August 22, there were 254 clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces on the front lines. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk sectors.
