Ukrainian hackers expose Russian positions, raise $5,870 for Armed Forces

The Ukrainian cyber community dealt a major blow to Russian attempts to restore communications via Starlink, reports Army TV.

Russian forces sought Ukrainians willing to activate Starlink terminals on their behalf — so-called “drops” — to coordinate units on the frontlines. Instead, they fell into a trap set by Ukrainian hackers.

The 256th Cyber Assault Division, in collaboration with the investigative platform InformNapalm and the MILITANT group, launched a rapid special operation. They created fake Telegram channels and bots simulating offers for “drops.” Russian soldiers attempted to recruit agents, resulting in 31 confirmed attempts.

The operation captured 2,420 data packets revealing the exact locations of enemy Starlink terminals — critical intelligence for counter-battery operations. All information was immediately shared with Ukrainian law enforcement and military intelligence.

In addition, the operation generated $5,870 directly from Russian troops interacting with the fake “drops,” funds that were subsequently redirected to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
