Ukrainian defense companies received 5 million photos to train combat AI
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has granted domestic defense companies access to the Avengers Labs platform, which enables the training of artificial intelligence models for drones. Millions of real-world images collected directly from the battlefield will be used to train the systems.
The platform was developed by the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies—the team that created the DELTA combat system.
At the heart of Avengers Labs is an annotated dataset of 5 million frames collected on the battlefield. Most of this material comes directly from the DELTA combat system and is constantly supplemented with new data that has practical value in combat conditions.
It covers a wide range of targets:
tanks;
artillery;
air defense systems;
infantry;
airborne targets, including Shahed drones and reconnaissance drones.
It is noted that access to Avengers Labs accelerates the development of AI-based technologies: it is virtually impossible for private companies to compile a dataset of comparable size and quality.
The Avengers Labs dataset was used to train an automatic target detection system, which has already proven its effectiveness in DELTA and analyzes over 100,000 video streams from drones every month. While processing video, the AI detects 70% of all enemy targets in real time and helps locate them both day and night.
Models trained on the Avengers dataset form the basis for several core operational scenarios. Among them are the two most common:
when the operator identifies a target, and the drone then autonomously adjusts its flight path during the final stage of the mission;
when the unmanned system is tasked with entering a specified area, independently detecting a target, and acting in accordance with the mission logic.
Such scenarios gradually reduce dependence on constant manual control and expand the capabilities of autonomous systems in real combat conditions.
