In Russia, drones attacked Gelendzhik; powerful explosions were heard
On August 8, a series of powerful explosions rocked Gelendzhik, in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. Local authorities initially attributed the explosions to Russian air defense operations, but later warned of a potential drone attack and urged residents to take shelter.
At 9:46 a.m., Bogodistov reported that the loud noises in Gelendzhik were related to the operation of Russian air defense systems.
According to him, at that moment, the military was allegedly repelling an attack on a neighboring city. At the same time, the mayor assured that Gelendzhik itself was not under any threat.
However, the situation subsequently changed.
At 11:02 a.m., local authorities announced a drone attack threat in Gelendzhik.
Sirens were activated in the city. Residents were urged to immediately seek shelter and remain there until an official announcement that the air threat had been lifted.
Those who were outdoors were advised to take shelter in basements, ground floors, or windowless rooms.
Access to beaches in the city was also restricted due to the drone threat.
Around 1:00 p.m., explosions were heard again in Gelendzhik. Afterward, local residents began posting footage of heavy smoke on social media.
The photos show a thick column of gray smoke rising above one section of the city, visible even from the coast of Gelendzhik Bay.
Photos of a dry cargo ship near Gelendzhik, with smoke visible above it, have also been circulating online. The authors of the Telegram channel Supernova+ claim that the ship may have been hit.
In addition, they report a fire in the area where Russian air defense systems are believed to be located. According to their information, missile launches have allegedly been recorded multiple times from this area in the past.
However, there is currently no official confirmation of any possible hits, damage, or consequences of the attack.
