Russia has stated its readiness to resume peace talks with Ukraine
Russia is reportedly ready to return to peace talks aimed at ending the war against Ukraine, but Moscow currently wants to discuss, first and foremost, proposals from the United States.
According to a Russian official, Moscow is willing to consider new U.S. proposals for resolving the war.
Karasin also stated that the Kremlin sees no obstacles to meeting with U.S. President Steve Witkoff’s special envoy and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
The Russian official asserts that Moscow is ready to resume the negotiation process if the American side is interested in achieving concrete results.
“We are always ready for meetings and negotiations. This applies to both Kushner and Witkoff. I see no obstacles to holding such a meeting, regardless of what Zelenskyy has or has not proposed,” Karasin said.
According to him, the effectiveness of a new round of negotiations should be determined by concrete results, not by the mere fact that meetings are held.
At the same time, the Russian representative’s statement suggests that Moscow is currently focusing specifically on American proposals, effectively pushing the Ukrainian position into the background.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated Kyiv’s readiness to negotiate in order to end Russian aggression.
At the same time, the Ukrainian side emphasizes that a genuine end to the war requires Russia’s willingness to reach a just settlement, and the final decision on whether to continue the aggression rests with Vladimir Putin.
Thus, Karasin’s statement indicates Moscow’s willingness to maintain diplomatic contact with U.S. representatives; however, it is currently unclear whether this signifies a genuine shift in the Kremlin’s position regarding the conditions for ending the war.

The negotiation track involving the United States aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine is currently on hold. Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated on August 6 that Kyiv is awaiting the arrival of the U.S. negotiating team to intensify diplomatic efforts.
Ukraine is ready for any format of meetings within the framework of negotiations to end the war and continues to coordinate its actions with the U.S. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv is counting on the active participation of U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in diplomatic efforts throughout August.
