Video: Fires Break Out Again Near Oil Refineries in Ufa and Samara, Russia, Following a Drone Attack
On the night of September 23, the Russian regions of Bashkortostan and the Samara Oblast came under drone attack. Fires have been reported near the oil refinery in Ufa and on the grounds of the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery in Samara.
In Ufa, local residents reported explosions and the activation of air defense systems. In the morning, the head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, stated that 20 drones were shot down over the region during the attack, though he did not report any damage to industrial facilities.
According to Ukrainian and Russian monitoring sources, following the attack in the industrial zone of Ufa—where Bashneft operates three large oil refineries—fires and a plume of smoke were observed. However, there is currently no independent confirmation that the fire was caused specifically by a drone strike on the refinery.
A fire also broke out overnight near the Kuibyshev Refinery in Samara. The facility had already been attacked by drones the day before, on September 22, after which a fire broke out on its grounds. It has not yet been definitively determined whether the new fire is related to a repeat attack or is a continuation of the previous fire.
The Ukrainian military had previously reported on the attack on the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery on September 22. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the strike caused a fire at the facility.
The Kuibyshev Oil Refinery is part of Rosneft’s Samara oil refining complex, along with the Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran refineries.
The consequences of the nighttime attack on September 23 and the extent of possible damage in the industrial zones of Ufa and Samara are currently being assessed.
