Video: Military Shows Downing of a Gerani-5 by the New STING Interceptor

The 1020th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Regiment of the Ukrainian Air Force has released a video showing the new STING S interceptor destroying a Russian “Geran-5” jet drone.

The video shows the “Rubin” crew using a STING S interceptor, manufactured by the company “Wild Hornets,” to take down the Russian drone.

The official technical specifications of the new STING S variant have not yet been disclosed. However, previous versions of the interceptor were reported to have a hit probability of 80–90%.

The stated range of earlier versions was approximately 25 km, while newer versions were reported to have a range of up to 37 km.

The interceptor is equipped with four rotors. According to the published specifications, its cruising speed is 140–170 km/h, with a maximum speed of up to 280 km/h. The drone can also climb to an altitude of over 7,000 meters.

The airframes of these drones are manufactured using 3D printing. The interceptors do not require a catapult for launch.

Another feature is the ability to return to the launch point if the target was destroyed by another interceptor.

The Russian “Geran-5” jet drone differs significantly from previous models in this series.

Unlike the “Geran-4,” which features a delta wing, the new model employs an aerodynamic configuration more similar to that of a winged missile.

According to the specified characteristics, the “Geran-5” is approximately 6 meters long, with a wingspan of up to 5.5 meters.

The drone is equipped with a warhead weighing approximately 90 kg.

According to available data, the Russian drone uses a Chinese TELEFLY TF-TJ2000A jet engine.

The claimed maximum speed of the “Gerani-5” is 450–600 km/h, with a service ceiling of up to 6,000 meters.

The approximate stated range of this drone is about 1,000 km.

The released video demonstrates the use of the STING S against one of the new Russian “Geran-5” jet-powered drones.

The footage was published on September 21 by the 1020th Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Regiment.

Earlier, soldiers from the 15th Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade “Black Forest” detected and struck a warehouse containing missiles for Russian air defense systems. The strike triggered a chain reaction of ammunition detonations at the facility.

On the night of September 20, Ukrainian forces struck the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya area. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strike and announced that one of Russia’s key oil industry facilities had been hit. The General Staff reported that a massive fire broke out at the plant following the attack.
