Witkoff to hold talks with Putin and Dmitriev in Moscow
US Special Representative Steve Witkoff arrives in Moscow on Tuesday for a series of high-level talks.
The American official will meet not only with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, but also with Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev.
The visit comes amid ongoing contacts between Washington and Kyiv regarding possible parameters for resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Witkoff is arriving in Moscow as a special envoy of the White House, authorised to conduct political and security consultations with the Russian side.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin's talks with Witkoff are scheduled for 5 p.m. Moscow time, which corresponds to 4 p.m. in Kyiv.
The official agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed, but Moscow has publicly emphasised its ‘appreciation of US efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.’
The Russian side presents the visit as part of a broader dialogue with the United States, which, despite the conflict, continues through limited channels.
The participation of the US president's special representative indicates Washington's desire to directly test possible scenarios for the Kremlin's further actions.
Separately, Witkoff will hold talks with Kirill Dmitriev, Putin's special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
This meeting will also take place on Tuesday in Moscow and will focus on the economic aspects of relations, including possible guarantees for Russian and international investors in the event of de-escalation.
As a reminder, US President's Special Representative Witkoff will fly to Moscow today.
