Overnight, the Russians struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles

On the night of July 16, Russian terrorists launched ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv, resulting in fires at warehouses and non-residential buildings in two districts of the capital. There are also reports of casualties and injuries.


Russia attacked the capital with ballistic missiles around 1:00 a.m.—explosions were heard, which continued for half an hour. Sirens sounded one minute before the attack.

Ten S-400 ballistic missiles were launched. The first explosions occurred almost immediately after the alert was sounded.

Local officials reported that the impacts were recorded in the Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts.

Situation by district

 

Darnitskyi District—In this district, the shelling caused a fire in an administrative and warehouse building, in nearby parked trucks, and in a warehouse; the fire has now been extinguished. The State Emergency Service reported two fatalities and two injuries, including a child.

Svyatoshyn District—It is known that a direct hit caused a fire in a single-story warehouse, which has been contained. Rescue workers reported three injured in this district.

Casualties

 

According to the State Emergency Service, as of the morning of July 16, two people had died in the capital following the Russian attack, and six others were injured. However, it is worth noting that Mayor Vitali Klitschko’s information differs slightly—according to his data, there are five injured in Kyiv, and the death toll stands at two.

 Among the injured is a 16-year-old boy.

As a reminder, on July 14, 17 people were injured in the Sumy region as a result of attacks by Russian troops. The shelling damaged civilian infrastructure and had consequences for the region’s residents.

Ukrainian defense forces pushed back Russian troops near the villages of Maliivka, Sichneve, Novohorhiivka, and Zaporizke in the Synelnykivskyi District of the Dnipropetrovsk region. 

Over the past 24 hours, 244 combat engagements took place on the front lines. Ukrainian forces continue to repel the advance of Russian occupation forces, inflicting losses on the enemy in terms of personnel and equipment.
